Neil Roberts, PhD Feb 7 2015 1:00 pm Washington DC, BusBoy & Poets
Taking his title from the societies of escaped slaves, or “maroons,” living on the outskirts of slave societies in the Caribbean, Roberts, Williams College associate professor of Africana studies, draws on history and on thinkers ranging from Douglass and Du Bois to Arendt and Angela Davis, to examine freedom as a condition of perpetual flight akin to marronage.
