HONORING LADIES WHO LEAD!!

The Wall Street Alphas Charitable Foundation (WSACF), in conjunction with the Kappa Xi Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc, will once again bring you SIP - a wine & spirits tasting experience! SIP is a Wall St. Alphas established tradition where, for several years, hundreds of sophisticated, young professionals and executives in various fields, city leaders, and the movers and shakers in the tri-state area have come to experience live music performances, a silent auction, exciting giveaways, delicious hors d'œuvres, and a vast assortment of carefully selected fine wines and cocktails. SIP will raise funds to support and develop programs that address the plight of young African-American and Latino-American men in the New York City area through the Alpha G.E.N.T.S. (Gaining Essential Networking Tools for Success) mentoring program. The Alpha G.E.N.T.S. mentoring program, provide young men with extraordinary life-changing experiences through a myriad of educational programs, college tours and lifelong mentoring.

Last year we honored "Men Who Mentor" and this year's SIP event will honor "Ladies Who Lead!"

Oprah Winfrey once said, "Think like a Queen. A Queen is not afraid to fail. Failure is another steppingstone to Greatness."

This year's Honorees are exceptional women who were not afraid to fail and, instead, continue to raise expectations, and have led in their respective fields!

Andrea Webster - an accomplished, multifaceted professional whose passion, values and unwavering commitment to her community are the embodiment of AKA's credo: "To be supreme in service to all mankind." Elected as the 36th President of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated's oldest graduate chapter in the New York metropolitan area, she is leading Tau Omega Chapter in its 91st year of serving the Harlem Community and beyond. Andrea also serves as a Trustee on the Tau Omega Charitable Trust Fund, Incorporated's Board.

Arva Rice - President & CEO of the New York Urban League (NYUL) an organization whose mission is to enable African Americans and other underserved communities to secure a first class education, economic self-reliance and equal respect of their civil rights through programs, services and advocacy. Prior to joining NYUL, she served as the Executive Director of Project Enterprise, an organization that provides business loans, technical assistance and peer support to New York City entrepreneurs.

Genese Jamilah - Genese is Founder & Editor in Chief of "I Don't Do Clubs," an events and lifestyle blog catering to Black professionals around the country. She takes great pride in helping her peers find social and professional activities. Genese is being recognized for her leadership in the field of Entrepreneurship through her work with "I Don't Do Clubs." We pleased to commemorate her achievements.

Pastor LaKeesha Walrond - Executive Pastor of First Corinthian Church (FCBC) in Harlem, New York. In this capacity she has been able to expand the many administrative aspects of ministry in an urban setting. In 2013, Rev. Walrond launched The Getting to Greatness Women's Conference promoting women's empowerment, leadership development, and wellness and wholeness. During her time in New York she has received numerous awards and recognitions.

Natasha Eubanks - CEO & Founder of TheYBF.com.  TheYBF.com, one of the largest and most popular celebrity gossip and entertainment websites, started as a hobby in July 2005 while Natasha was in her first year of law school. It is the product of her obsession with all that is Hollywood and celebrity and it has developed into a full-fledged business that enjoys a readership of over 30 million views per month.  The brand focuses on shedding light on the fabulous side of Black Hollywood, as well as having fun with the drama that makes Hollywood---Hollywood.

Nubia Murray - For nearly a decade, Nubia Murray has worked on Chase's global sponsorships including the Corporate Challenge running series, which she managed in the US, Frankfurt, South Africa, Sydney and Singapore. As a Vice President in the firm's Sports & Entertainment Marketing division, Nubia guides Chase's partnerships with FC Dallas Soccer, the Arizona Diamondbacks, the PGA Tour, and the Madison Square Garden relationship, inclusive of the Rangers, Liberty, Knicks and the Westchester Knicks.

As Honorees for "Ladies Who Lead" during our annual "Sip" event, these outstanding women are being recognized for their leadership in the fields of Entrepreneurship, Corporate and Non-Profit Leadership, and Ministry! We recognize and value their dedication and service to the advancement of our communities in the New York City area, and we are pleased to commemorate their achievements.

The classically detailed, ornate venue at The Prince Georges Ballroom will provide the setting for our guests to mingle and network  on Thursday, June 16, 2016. Tax deductible tickets are only $75.00!

Anti-Violence Panel Discussion | Tue 9.15.15 | The New School - More Than A Protest Novel: Connecting the Dots

Please join us for the upcoming event, “More Than a Protest Novel: Connecting the Dots - 1.5 Million Black (Wo)Men Missing,” a thought-provoking anti-violence panel.
Co-hosted by Black Ivy Events; the Harlem Alphas of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.; and New Black School (student group), it will take place on Tuesday, September 15, 2015 from 6:30 – 9:30 p.m. at The New School’s Lang Center: 55 West 13th Street, off Avenue of the Americas (6th Avenue).
This FREE event will take a look at personal experiences with violence; the current anti-violence space; real stats on homicide rates; and policy initiatives and new/innovative solutions to address the violence (including prayer).
It will also examine public policy and connect the dots with recent events like the deaths of Freddie Gray and Sandra Bland, and the Charleston Massacre.
More information regarding the book and author at hamnovels.com.
Book signing to follow.
Panelists include:
• A.T. Mitchell, founder of Man Up! Inc. in East New York, Brooklyn
• Marlon Peterson, founder of The Precedential Group—who was also featured in the internationally acclaimed blog, Humans of New York
• Iesha Sekou, founder of Street Corner Resources, Harlem
• Kathleen Horan, Former WNYC public radio reporter who did the series “In Harm’s Way, ” which—in 2013—memorialized the individual lives of New York City' kids killed by gunfire; and creator of the upcoming podcast, “Mortal City”
• Oresa Williams, Founder and CEO of Not Another Child
• Justyn Richardson, a recent alum of The New School's Milano Urban Policy graduate program, and a policy analyst for the NYC Department of Investigation
• Petra E. Lewis, author of the trilogy, The Sons and Daughters of Ham
From moderator, Rev. Alfonso Wyatt, to featured panelists, the event will showcase some of New York City’s top minds when it comes to effectively addressing (gun) violence—and do so in a “novel” way. The framework for the panel is the first book in novelist Petra E. Lewis’ trilogy, The Sons and Daughters of Ham, Book I: A Requiem, which examines a family in the aftermath of violence.

New York City Half Marathon For Brotherhood SisterSol

Hello Friends and Family,

ORGANIZER: RAHSAN-RAHSAN
EVENT DATE: MAR 15, 2015

You are a Team Member

THE STORY:

Rahsan-Rahsan Lindsay wrote -
In 3 weeks, I will once again be running the NYC Half marathon. While I see it as a personal challenge, I also use it as an opportunity to do some good. The purpose of this fundraiser is to bring much needed support to an organization I hold near and dear, The Brotherhood/Sister Sol. BHSS is a NYC based comprehensive youth development organization that is a model for programs like it across the country.
In this, its 20th year, BHSS is endeavoring to serve more young people than ever before. With programs that include environmental study, summer leadership, summer camp, creative writing, study abroad and youth organizing among other programs, Bro-Sis is widely recognized as one of the best organizations in the country for youth development and education.
I'm asking people to either pledge a flat amount of an amount per mile. As a reminder, half marathon's are 13.1 miles! :-) In addition, I am hoping you will pass this link on to others whom you believe would support an organization like The Brotherhood/Sister Sol.

Peace & blessings,
Rahsan

Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial

Mission and Vision Statement of the Memorial Project

Mission Statement

To commemorate the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. by leading a collaborative funding, design, and construction process in the creation of a memorial to honor his national and international contributions to world peace through non-violent social change.

Vision Statement

Dr. King championed a movement that draws fully from the deep well of America's potential for freedom, opportunity, and justice. His vision of America is captured in his message of hope and possibility for a future anchored in dignity, sensitivity, and mutual respect; a message that challenges each of us to recognize that America's true strength lies in its diversity of talents. The vision of a memorial in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. is one that captures the essence of his message, a message in which he so eloquently affirms the commanding tenants of the American Dream — Freedom, Democracy and Opportunity for All; a noble quest that gained him the Nobel Peace Prize and one that continues to influence people and societies throughout the world. Upon reflection, we are reminded that Dr. King's lifelong dedication to the idea of achieving human dignity through global relationships of well being has served to instill a broader and deeper sense of duty within each of us— a duty to be both responsible citizens and conscientious stewards of freedom and democracy.
